Amitabh Bachchan intense romantic look was a delicacy for the heroines of his times. A tall guy with depth in his eyes and a heavy voice, he was a star. Though his initial days were not much of a success but he worked hard to reach a position.
Born on 11 October 1942, Amitabh was born in Allahabad to Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. He did his schooling in Sherwood College, Nainital and joined Kirori Mal College of Delhi University. His debut film ‘Saat Hindustani’ won him the National award for the best newcomer. He was also adjudged as the best supporting actor for his role in ‘Anand’.
‘Angry Young Man’ as he carried with the image, in a number of movies. He gave a number of hits like Deewar, Sholay etc and also comedies like Amar Akbar Anthony. On the sets of one of his movies ‘Coolie’ (1982) he met an accident; he stayed critical in hospital for months. His fans prayed for him and offered limbs for him.
In 1984, Amitabh entered politics in support of his family friend Rajiv Gandhi. He contested and won from Allahabad’s Lok Sabha seat. But he was accused of being involved in Bofors scam, though he was proved innocent later, Amitabh quitted politics. Amitabh’s company ABCL met a failure, in those times he was financially helped by his friend Amar Singh.
In 1988 Bachchan returned to films, since then he gave a line of hits including Shahenshah, Jaadugar, and Toofan etc. He also started hosting the television show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ in 2000 which has proven to be a big hit. Since then, he is doing great.
As far as his personal life is concerned Bachchan is married to Jaya Bhaduri and has a daughter Shweta and son Abhishek. His daughter in-law is Aishwarya Rai. Amitabh Bachchan has won various awards for his acting, of which National Award and a few International Awards are a part of. Most recently, Bachchan was seen in ‘Shamitabh’, now he will be seen in ‘Piku’.
