Film Review: ‘Ghayal Once Again’ lacks good story

Director: Sunny Deol

Star Cast: Sunny Deol, Soha Ali Khan, Om Puri, Tisca Chopra, Narendra Jha, Shivam Patil and Dayna Khan

Duration: 2 Hours 8 minutes

Genre: Action-drama

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

In the year 1990, an action packed film ‘Ghayal’ featuring Sunny Deol had come. The film was a blockbuster and Sunny become overnight action star of Bollywood. He also got National Award for his stupendous performance of Ajay Mehra in the film. Now Sunny has brought the sequel of ‘Ghayal’ as ‘Ghayal Once Again’ after 25 years. This time he himself direct, written and produce the film. Will Sunny again receive the same madness like he got in the previous installment of the film? Let’s see the review of the film.

'Ghayal Once Again'
‘Ghayal Once Again’

The story of ‘Ghayal Once Again’ starts with a powerful businessman Raj Bansal and Ajay Mehra (Sunny Deol), who owns a media, channel ‘Satyakam’. Raj Bansal misuses his powers and wants to undermine the voice of youth. Ajay Mehra is here plays a survivor and tries hard to bring the truth in front of everyone to save the children. Om Puri and Soha Ali Khan as Rhea and ACP Joe D’Souza respectively have a very vital role in the film. The young children’s roles are played by debutant youngsters Rishab Arora, Shivam Patil, Anushka Munjaal and Dayna Khan. Whether Ajay Mehra will finish the bad anti-social elements of the society or not? You will know this after watching the movie.

‘Ghayal Once Again’ comprises an ordinary story which Indian audience has been watching for the past few decades. The film also have the flashback of ‘Ghayal’ that is here to reconnect the audience with the past but it clearly lacks a good script. Although, the film has some breathtaking action-sequences picturized on Sunny but the old magic of him is completely missing. Not a single promising dialogue in the film which attract the audience.

About the performances, Sunny Deol returns as Ajay Mehra tries to bring the same magic what he did in ‘Ghayal’ and somehow he honestly played his part but the lose script doesn’t allow him to show what he could actually do. However, his action sequences will surely reminds you the old Sunny Deol but overall he fails to deliver. Soha Ali Khan, Om Puri and Tisca Chopra have impressed in their small but important roles whereas the younger crop of actors have given their best.

As I said earlier, here, story is the main villain. This is the new age generation which wants something innovative and out of the box kinds of films but ‘Ghayal Once Again’ has old proven plot which escaped in the presence of action. It could have been better than this. Music is not good as expected.

The last words about ‘Ghayal Once Again’ are that the film is not as good what you are expecting from a Sunny Deol starrer. If you are going to the theatres having ‘Ghayal’ in minds, you will surely disappoint but for Sunny’s fan, this could be once time watch.

My rating to the film is 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Film Review of ‘Mastizaade’

Director: Milap Zaveri

Star Cast: Sunny Leone, Tusshar Kapoor, Veer Das, Suresh Menon and Asrani

Genre: Adult-Comedy

Duration: 1 hour 48 minutes

Rating: 1.5 out of 5 stars

Milap Zaveri has done ‘Masti’ (2004), ‘Hey Baby’ (2007) and ‘Grand Masti’ (2013) as a writer. Now he has come up with ‘Mastizaade’ and making his directorial debut. ‘Mastizaade’ is an adult-comedy. Let’s check out whether the film has the ability to attract audience towards theatre.

A still from 'Mastizaade'
A still from ‘Mastizaade’

‘Mastizaade’ is the story of two friends Sunny Kele (Tusshar Kapoor) and Aditya Chotia (Veer Das), who are working in an advertising agency but fired out due to some reasons. Later on, they opened an ad agency on their own. The story moves on and one day they met with two girls Lily Lele and Laila Lele (Sunny Leone) having same face but different personalities. Both fell in love with them. Lots of confusions occur due to these dual characters that creates humour.

Milap Zaveri has written this script for the younger generation and put lots of punches which might attract youth. As expected, the film has filled with the double meaning dialogues with the extra dose of skin show by hot and bold Sunny. Like last week released ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’, this film is also made for the special bunch of audience who like sex-comedies.

Sunny Leone as usual has not left any stone unturned to make this the biggest sex-comedy. In the entire film, she is seen in many colorful ‘Bikinis’ and her fans would definitely love her in dual characters. Veer Das along with Tusshar Kapoor has tried their best to maintain the humor with the help of their perfectly timed punches but script has not allowed them to do any extraordinary thing to do.

‘Mastizaade’ might not get more audiences as expected by the makers because of its confusing and weak story and after one point of time, you will get bored.

You can skip this film and wait for the better one.

My rating to the film is 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Film review: ‘Saala Khadoos’ is the story of tremendous courage and passion

Director: Sudha Dogra

Star cast: R. Madhavan, Ritika Singh and Mumtaz Sorcar

Genre: Sports-drama

Duration: 1 hour 49 minutes

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

In recent few years, sports is the current hot favourite plot for a film among the makers. Many sports based film have been made till date on Hockey, Football and Cricket. ‘Saala Khadoos’ is based on Boxing. Let’s see whether this film is worth to watch or not.

R. Madhavan and Ritika Singh in a still from 'Saala Khadoos'
R. Madhavan and Ritika Singh in a still from ‘Saala Khadoos’

The story starts with a boxing coach Aadi Tomar (R. Madhavan) who is facing lots of false charges due to his chief Dev Khatri (Zakhir Hussain). Now, Aadi is searching for a boxing player who, with the help of his/her boxing heroics in the ring proved that all the allegations against him are wrong. In between all this, Aadi has been transferred to Chennai where he meets with a fish seller Madhi (Ritika Singh) who is a big fan of Boxing legend Mohammad Ali. Her sister Laks (Mumtaz Sorcar) is also a good boxer. Aadi finds his boxer in Madhi and trained her for the competition. Will Madhi fulfill the expectations of Aadi? Will she win the contest? To know, you have to watch the film.

Like the other sports based film, here also the coach and the player is the important characters of the film which means there is nothing new the makers are offering you but the enthusiasm and passion about the sports is really commendable. There is also a romantic angle in the film which will test your patience but the most important thing is the fantastic climax filled with thrill that will induce you to give round of applause.

Madhavan is in his best and his mind blowing performance will surly win your hearts. With this character of a tough boxing coach, Madhavan has shown his versatility after playing a simple guy in ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ (2015). Ritika Singh has also done a fantastic job in her debut film. She is a real boxer in her life and you will enjoy her performance. The other characters of Zakhir Hussain and Mumtaz Sorcar have too done their part honestly.

At the end, as I said earlier that if you are finding a fresh story in ‘Saala Khadoos’, you might get disappoint because the story is easily predictable but if you love these kinds of motivational films, you have to watch ‘Saala Khadoos’.

I will go with 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Movie Review: Think twice before watching this debacle adult- comedy ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’

Director: Umesh Ghadge

Star Cast: Tusshar Kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani, Mandana Karimi and Krushna Abhishek

Genre: Adult-comedy

Duration: 2 hours 4 minutes

Ratings: 1.5 out of 5 stars

Ekta Kapoor is once again back with the third installment of her most popular franchise as ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’. This time Ekta has given the responsibility of directing this third part of adult-comedy to Umesh Ghadge but the film has completely disappoint the audience and this might be the weakest part of this series.

'Kya Kool Hain Hum 3'
‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’

The film starts with Kanhaiya (Tusshar Kapoor) who is a loyal ‘Sanskari’ boy. He everyday pray God to meet with his love, but unfortunately his professional life is not going well. He has been fired by his company. Just when he gets frustrated with this all, his best friend Rocky (Aftab Shivdasani) meets him to whom he shares all his problems. Suddenly, one day their old friend Mickey (Krushna Abhishek) called them and offered a job in Bangkok.

Kanhaiya and Rocky then goes to Bangkok and meet Mickey who is porn film producer and making spoofs film on various popular Bollywood movies like ‘Sholay’ and ‘Hum Apke Hain Kon’. During all this, Kanhaiya one day met his love in Shalu (Mandana Karimi) in a mall. Both want to marry but the condition is that Kanhaiya has to convince Shalu’s family, so he, with the help of Rocky and Micky creates a fake ‘Sanskari Family’ and tried tries to get the green signal from Shalu’s family. In between, lots of messed has been occurred in the form of adult jokes and double meaning dialogues. This is the short gist of the film.

This is certainly the weakest film of this franchise. There is not any kind of particular story in the film. More than half of the film is based on the badly created spoofs on Bollywood films which people have already seen in various films in the past. There is not any new thing to share with you. The makers thought that they would make this kind of comedy film with the mixture of sexual scenes and cheesy dialogues but the film is totally a big disappointment. It portrays woman as an object and disgrace the dignity of the people with useless dialogues.

Tusshar Kapoor and Aftab Shivdasani are now the faces of sex comedies but this time they failed to attract the audience. There is not any positive word to say about these two as they are just here to narrate the weird dialogues without any expressions. Mandana Karimi, who is making her Bollywood debut with the film, has nothing to do in the film except the showing off and exposing her hot and sexy body. People would remind her with her hotness. Krushna Abhishek is the lone actor in the film who somehow manages to entertain you with his dialogue delivery.

‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’ is certainly the waste of time. You would not watch the film who only personifies women as the object and get passed over the dignity of the people.

My rating to the film is 1.5 out of 5 stars.

Film Review: ‘Airlift’ is a must watch for every proud Indian

Director: Raja Krishna Menon

Starcast: Akshay Kumar, Nimrat Kaur and Purab Kohli

Genre: Historical-drama

Duration: 2 hours 4 minutes

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Akshay Kumar is now regularly doing films based on reality. After getting much appreciation from ‘Special 26’ (2013), he has now come up with another film ‘Airlift‘ based on a true event related to the biggest evacuation done by Indian Government to airlift millions of Indians from the war zone of Kuwait which was invaded by Iraq in 1990. Let’s see whether Akshay has achieved what he wants to convey through this film or not.

Akshay Kumar in a still from 'Airlift'
Akshay Kumar in a still from ‘Airlift’

The story starts with an NRI businessman Ranjit Katyal (Akshay Kumar) who lives happily in Kuwait with his wife Amrita Katyal (Nimrat Kaur) and a lovely daughter. Ranjit is one of those Indians living in Kuwait who are not interested in coming back to India and doing good business in the gulf country. Suddenly one day, Saddam Hussain who is the dictator of Iraq has invaded in Kuwait and the war has been started. In this adverse condition, Indians have to pack their bags and tries to move back to India. Ranjit despite get out of this, he helps Indian authorities to escape 1 lakh 70 thousands Indians to evacuate from war prone country. Lots of hearts touching incidents are there in the film for which you have to watch the film in theatre.

Here the credit must goes to the fantastic script written by Raja Krishna Menon along with the script writers Suresh Nayar, Rahul Nangia and Ritesh Shah. Generally it is very difficult to write the story and the screenplay of a reality based film but ‘Airlift’ is treat to watch. The first five minutes of the film will make you thrill and then the film slowly picks up the pace. Second half is very interesting and you will surely enjoy the outstanding performances by all the stars in this half. The end credit that comprises the true information of this operation will make you feel proud to be an Indian.

About the performances, this might be Akshay’s best performance so far in his 25 years old long career. He is in his best to portray Ranjit Katyal. His mind blowing acting overshines others and he is enough to bring this to another level. In recent past, Akshay has been making his own standards of outstanding performances with the films he chose to do. His different expressions in the film have certainly a big treat to watch for his fans. Nimrat Kaur has done a good job in the role of Akshay’s wife. Rest of the starcast has too given their honest effort to make this epic.

Although, there are not much songs inducted in the film as the script doesn’t required extra songs but still you will like the music and background score composed by Ankit Tiwari and Amaal Malik.

The only little loop hole in the film is the way of picturisation of this biggest evacuation in a very simple way, after watching you might feel that, is this really was as easy as it has shown in the film?

The last words for this film are if you are a true countryman and patriotism is in your blood, you should watch this film to know about the bravest work done by our Government to rescue our brothers and sisters from the war-zone. This is simply beyond our thoughts.

My rating to ‘Airlift’ is 3 out of 5 stars.

Film Review of ‘Wazir’

Director: Bijoy Nambiar

Star Cast: Farhan Akhtar, Amitabh Bachchan, Aditi Rao Hydari, John Abraham and Nitin Mukesh

Genre: Thriller

Duration: 1 hour 43 minutes

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Director Bijoy Nambiar is known for a different cinema. He directed films like ‘Shaitan’ (2011), ‘David’ (2013) and also produced ‘Pizza’ (2014) and ‘Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gai’ (2014). He is now come up with a thriller ‘Wazir’ which is based on the idea of Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Farhan Akhtar and Amitabh Bachchan in 'Wazir'
Farhan Akhtar and Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Wazir’

‘Wazir’ is the story of ATS chief Danish Ali (Farhan Akhtar) who is happily living his life with his wife Ruhana Ali (Aditi Rao Hydari) and a daughter. One day, Pandit Omkarnath Dhar (Amitabh Bachchan) enters into his life who is handicapped and always on a wheel chair. Coincidentally, both have undergone with some problems due to which they have to help each other. During this all, they faced with a fearless politician (Manav Kaul). Who is the real ‘Wazir’ in this game of chess! You will know after watching this thriller.

Writer Abhijaat Joshi has done a fantastic job and transformed a wonderful idea into the story. The entire story is just like the game of chess in which there are some pawns, bishops, rooks and at the end there is an unexpected king. After so long, you will watch a short duration film of 103 minutes. The speed of the film is also very commendable and you would surely enjoy every bit of this thriller.

Multitalented actor Farhan Akhtar once again proved that he always tries to get into the character and succeed. Aditi Rao Hydari has also got much attention and he too done a job. The main attraction of ‘Wazir’ is Amitabh Bachchan who has done mindblowing work in this Kashmiri’s role. Manav Kaul is the surprise package in the film. Neil Nitin Mukesh and John Abraham have done well in extended cameo.

Film’s music has already been appreciated by the music lovers and Sonu Nigam’s ‘Tere Bin’ is in top of the list of current chartbusters.

At the end, if you love thrillers and the fans of Amitabh and Farhan, you could watch ‘Wazir’.

My Rating for ‘Wazir’ is 3 out of 5 stars.

Film Review of ‘Bajirao Mastani’

Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

Starcast: Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra

Genre: Love-Drama

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Bajirao Mastani’ brings back Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s favourite genres which include love triangle, larger than life sets and mesmerizing moments. This time he chose the love of Maratha warrior Peshva Bajirao and Mastani, daughter of the king of Chatrasaal. Although, the film seems to hang between the history and the love tale, but it still manage to hold its place strongly and reflects that if love crossed its limits, it becomes insanity.

'Bajirao Mastani'
‘Bajirao Mastani’

Bajirao (Ranveer Singh) is warrior who knows how to defeat the enemy in a battle. He never lost a single battle out of all he fought. He has a beautiful wife Kashibai (Priyanka Chopra). During a campaign, Mastani (Deepika Padukone) she wants help from Bajirao. She impresses him with her immense bravery and gets a place in Bajirao’s heart. But then Bajirao, by default made a mistake which mistakenly accepted by Mastani and loose herself to Bajirao. This gives a big shock to Kashibai who loves Bajirao more than her life. Now here it becomes an intense love triangle. On one hand a new love story arises and on other side a relationship near to an end.

bajirao-mastani- warrior

Deepika once again proved that she is a fantastic actress and if she got the right role under the guidance of good direction, she brings it to another level. She is the perfect choice to play Mastani. In entire film she stands head to head with Ranveer and Priyanka and sometimes she overpowers her contemporaries.

Ranveer has also done a commendable job as a warrior. His superb action and mindblowing chemistry with Deepika is treat to watch. His Hindi with Marathi accent sounds funny but he has given his heart out to live this character.

Although, the entire focus in the film revolves around Bajirao and Mastani but in between these two, Priyanka as Kashibai honestly played her character and matched with Ranveer and Deepika.

‘Bajirao Mastani’ is the magical universe of Sanjay Leela Bhansali who creates this historical love story into his mode of cinema. He has his own bunch of people who loves his film but here he has the advantage to cash in with the help of Ranveer and Deepika.

This is surely a onetime watch film which shows you the different angles of a love story.

My rating to the film is 4 out of 5 stars.

Film Review: ‘Dilwale’ is just a time pass, leave brain and enjoy

Director: Rohit Shetty

Starcast: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Kriti Sanon, Boman Irani, Vinod Khanna and Kabir Bedi

Genre: Romantic-action-drama

Duration: 2 hours 34 minutes

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Rohit Shetty is known for his family entertainers and high end action sequences and Shah Rukh Khan is popular for spreading love and happiness. The combo of these two had mesmerized the people in the  past with the blockbuster ‘Chennai Express’ (2013) and now this hit ‘Jodi’ has once again come on board with romantic-action-drama ‘Dilwale’. This film brings back the iconic on-screen pair of Shah Rukh and Kajol after 5 years. Let’s see whether this will recreate the magic of this couple among the fans.

A still from 'Dilwale'
A still from ‘Dilwale’

‘Dilwale’ is a story of a guy Raj (Shah Rukh) who lives in Goa with his brother Veer (Varun Dhawan). Raj is a very simple person who has worked as a car modifier. 15 years ago, due to some happenings, Raj had to leave Bulgaria and shifted to Goa. In Bulgaria, Raj loved Meera (Kajol) but they had to separate from each other because of some adverse situations. Now, after long time, Veer and his love affair (Kriti Sanon) help them to meet again but Meera now hates Raj. With lots of twists and turn, some other characters including Varun Sharma, Boman Irani and Johnny Lever creates humour in between this story. Now, whether Raj and Meera will unite again? Whether everything between them will all right? You have to watch the film.

'Dilwale' starcast
‘Dilwale’ starcast

Rohit Shetty has once again proved that he is one of those directors who could make a complete package in a film. In between, he has got the support from Sajid-Farhad’s humour and the magic of Shah Rukh-Kajol’s chemistry. As usual like his earlier films, the extra dose of Rohit’s action sequences adds some more life to the film. The most promising thing about the film is the selection of some beautiful locations of Bulgaria and Iceland which is treat to watch for the audience. Rohit and his team has done their heart out to bring smile on your face but you have to leave your brain at home and just enjoy the film.

As expected, ‘Dilwale’ is revolving around Shah Rukh and Kajol who have given their best and their prolific performances do not leave any stone unturned to make this memorable. Shah Rukh has brilliantly performed his dual roles of lover and brother while Kajol maintains the decorum in between the good and bad phases of life. The fresh pair of Varun and Kriti has done a commendable job and the other supporting characters have tried their best to entertain you. Its music has also created the magic among the fans and the songs like ‘Gerua’ and ‘Janam Janam’ gave the extra added support to the story.

The only low end of the film is its story which is difficult to digest but then it’s a family entertainer of Rohit Shetty whose only motive is to induce you to go and enjoy your 3 hours in the theatre and once again he is successful in do so.

All n all ‘Dilwale’ is a good time pass which you could watch once to entertain. For Shah Rukh and Kajol’s lover, this is surely the wonderful treat from them to their fans. Go and Enjoy.

My rating to the film is 3 out of 5 stars.

Film Review of ‘Hate Story 3’

Director: Vishal Pandya

Starcast: Sharman Joshi, Zarine Khan, Karan Singh Grover

Music: Amaal Malik and Meet Brothers

Genre: Thriller

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars

‘Hate Story’ franchise is always known for its ‘sex appeal’. Its lasts two installments have shown Pauli Dam and Surveen Chawla in glamorous and bold characters. They both single handedly pulled off the franchise on their shoulders but in ‘Hate Story 3’ which is directed by Vishal Pandya, is completely different from its earlier parts. It is basically a thriller in which director Vishal has put some sort of suspense. But it seems that he hasn’t got success in this effort but then it will have an extra dose of sexuality which will make you attract towards theatre.

'Hate Story 3'
‘Hate Story 3’

‘Hate Story 3’ is a story of a successful businessman Aditya Diwan (Sharman Joshi) and his wife Sia (Zarine Khan). He rapidly climbs the ladders of success in his life till a man Sourav Singhania (Karan Singh Grover) knocks in his life. He told Aditya to want one night stand with Sia. Then everything gets messed and both Aditya and Sourav becomes enemy. Both have their own goals. Now the thrills and suspense begins with lots of plans and secrets revealed.

The story of the film is not as much fascinated as it seemed before its release. Apart from the two songs, the story has lost its flow in between and there is not out of the box suspense which you haven’t understood. Music is not as good as expected.

If we talk about performances, Zarine Khan has finally entered into the world of hotness and boldness. She has just shocked everyone with her glamorous avatar. She never hesitates to give these sex scenes which looks her beautiful. Although, she has to go long way as acting is still far away from her. On the other hand, Daisy Shah has also done the same what Zarine did but she had nothing much to do in the film apart from those erotic scenes which she gave relentlessly. Sharman Joshi and Karan Singh Grover has done quite well of their parts. But as its earlier installments, the focus is again on heroines which have been the identity of this franchise.

You can certainly skips this film if you thinks it’s have a solid story with suspense and thriller. Only those who loves this franchise and are eager to watch Zarine and Daisy in this new makeover sexual avatar, could watch ‘Hate Story 3’ but it’s a complete waste of money and your valuable time.

My rating to ‘Hate Story 3’ is 2 out of 5 stars.

Movie Review of ‘Tamasha’: Watch out this ‘different’ love story

Director: Imtiaz Ali

Starcast: Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone

Genre: Romantic-Drama

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Director Imtiaz Ali’s directorial venture ‘Tamasha’ has finally released. After ‘Jab We Met’ (2007), ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009), ‘Rockstar’ (2011) and ‘Highway’, Imtiaz here also trying to portray something new and different love story starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles.

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone

The story of ‘Tamasha’ revolves around Ved Vardhan Sahani (Ranbir) and Tara Maheshwari (Deepika). From childhood, Ved is fond of stories. He lives in his own fantasy world. He doesn’t like studies but only loves telling and hearing stories. His family wants him to do engineering but he has his own dreams. In between all this, He goes to Corsica for a fun trip where she met Tara. Both become friends but Ved wants to live some different life with Tara.

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in 'Tamasha'
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in ‘Tamasha’

Both plan to lie from each other and will do ‘Matargashti’. One week after this, they left the place with the decision not to meet again. But here comes a twist in the story. Tara met Ved in Delhi. Ved is now completely changed person doing 9-6 job. Then, Ved proposed Tara in front of his friends but Tara reject the proposal. Is this love story completed? Whether Tara and Ved unite again? Some more twists and turns, you have to watch the film.

Imtiaz again impressed with his direction. As usual like his earlier films, he doesn’t lose the grip from the story. The first half is the best example of his supremacy. Although second half is slightly on lower side sue to the excess of drama which sometimes makes you boring.

The lead pair of Ranbir and Deepika has done their best with the fantastic acting. Comparatively, Ranbir here get the more screen space than Deepika. Well, this film will surely boost Ranbir’s career to another level and he desperately needs this film after 3 back to back disasters.

The other highlighting part of the film is its wonderful music composed by A.R. Rehman.  All the songs including ‘Matargashti’ and ‘Heer’ are perfectly matched with the situations.

At the end, we must say that if you missed Ranbir and Deepika after ‘Yeh Jawani hai Deewani’ and want to see some new love story, then, ‘Tamasha’ is for you. It will not disappoint you and your pocket. Go and watch this once.

My rating for the film is 3 out of 5 stars.
